So lately I've been hearing a lot of people tell me that drinking milk isn't necessarily good for our body due to high fat content. According to some of my friends studying medicine, they told me that drinking milk is only important for babies and young children and adults should drink skim milk (which tastes like sadness) or alternative milk (such as soymilk). I've done some research and there seems to be arguments from both sides.

What do you think?

I love the taste of full cream milk and I can never replace the milk in my coffee but I wouldn't mind switching to soy milk if it means it's healthier.

Do you like chocolate milk? If you drink low fat chocolate milk it might distract you from the fact it's low fat.

One thing I've noticed with my lattes is that if I have one with soy milk I don't need to add sugar and it makes me feel more full. Probably because soy milk already has some sugar in it, and all that fiber makes you feel full.

That all said, there's no need to give up your regular full fat milk, as long as you drink it moderately. Cut back where you can and still be happy. But otherwise: there's a hell of a lot worse things you can be putting into your body that deserve your attention.

Stick to cows milk unless you are allergic or intolerant, if you want to reduce the fat try semi-skimmed (green top in the UK).

Milk is a natural product, and the less messed-with your food is, the better it is for your body.

Cow's milk has about double the amount of protein as soy milk. They're both a good source of calcium (if it's added in soy milk), potassium, phosphorous, vitamin D and other nutrients.

Soy and cow's milk have different types of protein. The protein in cow's milk is called casein. Often, our bodies can process and use the nutrients from animals sources better than plant sources. That's not to say you can't be a vegetarian, or that soy milk is a bad option for people.

Soy milk is the best substitute out there when it comes to milk substitutes: Almond milk, rice milk, or hemp milk — I wouldn't even call them cow milk replacers. They are very low in protein.

Milk has sugar, and some people get freaked out about that. But the milk sugar lactose does not have that much of an effect on blood sugar as table sugar has.

There is also a difference between lactose intolerance and milk allergy. An actual allergy to milk is very rare, and that's when people are allergic to casein in milk. If you're allergic to it, you know it. If you're lactose intolerant you also know; your stomach hurts and you feel gassy. If someone likes milk and doesn't tolerate lactose, I'd say do lactose-free milk.

If the milk(s?) you've mentioned has nutritional and health benefits, then drink.

As for me, the knowledge of the taste alone is enough to make me buy. laugh

Milk is definitely an amazing thing to drink as long as you don't have a lactose intolerance. If you do have a lactose intolerance I would recommend you stay far away from soy products as 98% of the soy grown is GMO and is owned by Monsanto. Soy is also extremely bad for you endocrine system as it is full of xenoestrogens, which mimic actual estrogen, which screws up your own hormonal balance. This can actually become a really big problem as you can develop things like gynecomastia (man boobs) with long term consumption of any soy products. This is only part of the reason why vegan and vegetarian lifestyles are terrible for your body.

The other point I'd like to make is that milk is a much healthier alternative to soda, alcohol, and even fruit juice. What a lot of people fail to realize is that our bodies are made up of proteins and fats, not carbohydrates. So fruit juices, although they may contain some vitamins, are extremely high in sugar, whether they're fresh squeezed or not. High sugar foods, like bread, pasta, rice, and especially fruits cause insulin spikes and wear out your pancreas, this is what eventually leads to type II diabetes. Yet another reason why vegan and vegetarian lifestyles are extremely unhealthy.

Our bodies are actually capable of making their own glucose (sugar) through a process known as ketogenesis, so we actually don't need to intake carbohydrates at all to survive. You could go your whole life without a single carb and actually be extremely healthy, the same cannot be said for going your whole life without protein or fat. This relates to milk because it's mostly protein and fat, which are essential nutrients for your body. Many people do not realize that your brain is the fattest organ in your body consisting of over 60% fat and that every nerve in your body is coated in cholesterol. Without cholesterol and fat in your diet, you would literally compromise your health and risk having mental health issues, neurological issues, or potential death.

Every cell in our bodies has a phospholipid bilayer that is also made up of fat and cholesterol. This bilayer is what allows the transfer of proteins and fats in and out of the cell, as well as protecting the cell from viruses and bacteria, so a lack of fat and cholesterol can actually compromise your immune system as well. The best meal you could have everyday would be 2 - 6 eggs with a big glass of milk. Very high in protein and fat, low in carbohydrates. Eggs and milk also have some of the highest quality and easily digestible protein available from any foods we eat or drink. This is why they've been considered "staple foods" for much of human history. So the more milk you drink, the healthier you will be, although I personally recommend drinking whole fat milk or fermented milk (kefir). Kefir has 10 - 20 probiotic strains as oppose to yoghurt's 6, making it an extremely healthy drink for your gut health as well. Look into it.

For anyone who wants to challenge or wants to disagree with what I've said, my mom developed type II diabetes from eating a high carb diet (mostly fruits). I personally see an endocrinologist on a regular basis who has educated me about many of these things. I bodybuild and drink 2 - 3 litres of Kefir and Organic Milk a day and my doctor always tells me I have some of the most impressive blood work he's ever seen and he wishes most his patients were like me because I actually understand proper nutrition. I also did 2 years of biochemistry at my local college. So I kind of know what I'm talking about. I also take in about 300 grams of fat a day, trying to get it up to 400 grams. 2% Milk only has 5 grams of fat for reference, so don't be afraid of the fat in milk, it's good for you!

It's funny that my post already got down-voted, meanwhile I backed up everything I said with facts you can find in any college or university biology or biochemistry textbook. Sad how brainwashed some people are... but go on believing your cult-like vegan/vegetarian pseudo-science, cuz I know it had to be someone who's vegan/vegetarian that down-voted me  Roll Eyes

I can only tell you this. My dad says that milk is for babies so they get stuff that help bones to grow, but they have to drink it from nipple so air doesn't come near milk or milk oxidizes and that ruins milk. So babies can only drink mothers milk. So cows milk is only good for calf. And not even human babies.
Then there is another side for milk. Goat milk is very healthy because of what goats eat, I think. Someone I know had his livers totally ruined because he was a drunk. Then doctor told him to drink goat milk or maybe he had to drink goat whey, so he got himself 50 goats drunk milk and whey all the time and got healthy.
I love goat milk most. Sheep milk is also great. It's very fatty. It has almost 5% fat, I think. But goat milk has this funny taste that strangely I like a lot
But then too much milk gives you gases

You realize though that saliva and blood aren't milk? And you realize though that milk doesn't come from a cat or a dog? It's a bit rich coming from a person that probably swallows millions of unborn children every time they have sex Smiley

What about coconut milk?
