I wonder why he would need to pardon himself?  Any guesses?  Frederick? Mhorndisk? Anyone?

I couldn't find any crickets in my back yard, let alone ones that could type, so I will just quote my favorite passage from your link:

"Trump himself has talked to advisers about his ability to pardon his aides, family members and himself in the investigations, according to the Post, though one adviser cautioned that the president's inquiries were made in curiosity rather than in connection to the Russia probes.

“'This is not in the context of, ‘I can’t wait to pardon myself,' the adviser said."

Whatever that adviser is paid, it's not enough.   Crazy?

To answer your question, pardon's would put an end to investigations of various people.  One doesn't have to be convicted of anything to get pardoned.   You don't even have to be charged.  It's like vetoing investigations.   Certainly the moonbats are being relentless in trying to stir up any kind of charges they can.  Trump Jr. can't fart without someone scrutinizing if the tone was flat or sharp.

My question is.. how could the Washington Post possibly know this?
"President Trump's lawyers are looking into the president's authority to grant pardons in connection with the special counsel investigation into Russia's role in the 2016 election, The Washington Post reported Thursday."
It seems to me, the Washington Post is just making up stories - which is typical.  Just about every story that I've had personal knowledge of in local news - has been a gross distortion of reality.

The idea that he needs to "look into" how to pardon himself is ridiculous. There is nothing to pardon himself for. And he wouldn't because that would be really stupid and feed the trolls on the left. The whole story is garbage because to do such a thing would be political suicide. He isn't going to do that nor would he need to. Sorry my friend, but you are reading FAKE NEWS. It's speculation that you are trying to present as factual in some way. But I think actually you just want to believe it, rather than know it, because it's what you want to believe. Be real. Look yourself in the mirror and put yourself in his shoes and ask, "If I were President." Hell no he wouldn't do that. It's absurd. More fake nothing burgers and a waste of your time and energy. A piece of advice: focus on something else. You're just going to get yourself all hyped up and be disappointed again.

Yeah, because other leaks about this White House haven't turned out to be completely true. He's definitely scrambling right now because Mueller is finding some incriminating stuff. It's only a matter of time before  Cheers

So you think it's appropriate for a President to pardon himself and his family despite the fact that they have done nothing wrong?

Hey! What happened to this FAKE NEWS you posted? Nothing. Because it was FAKE, and everyone knew it, and that's why it's not even a subject being discussed anymore. You are a good propagandist, aren't you? Just like, OH CNN SAID IT! So it must be a subject to be venerated... but now we look back and see that you were just promoting fake stories. That is what you did. As we said, Trump was never looking into pardoning himself from fake stories. You said we were conspiring and all this other crap, but guess what? You dropped it and thought it would disappear. You promote fake news, bro. You don't know how to analyze information objectively, you just promote lies. Otherwise, this "story" you latched onto would be the story of the day, but it isn't, because it was stupid.
