https://www.thewrap.com/dove-apologizes-racist-soap-ad-turned-black-woman-white/This is the best article I found because it goes into the history. What do you think, racist or just insensitive?
A couple of years ago a small Chinese company ran an ad in which a black house painter, speckled with white paint, tried to kiss a Chinese woman. She dodges the kiss, pushing him into the laundry machine. He comes out a porcelain white Chinese man. I argued that this wasn't racist because 1) in China there are next to zero black people, 2) so there is no race problem (China isn't obliged to follow Western sensitivity rules because the commercial means something else to a set of Chinese eyes than Western ones).
This Dove ad is different, imo. What do you think?
