Both!  I think there's a variety of factors here.

In a sense, you can have a longer orgasm if you feel the volcano building, but have the control to keep the strokes slow until you erupt.

If it's 4 a.m. and I need to wrap things up, or are struggling to get there after a boozy night, going faster usually helps make things right.
