Amy Winehouse... Not really a big surprise considering her lifestyle, but still too young. I loved Back to Black and was looking forward to more stuff from her.

David Bowie was a surprise.
Though he had a lengthy career.
It still caught me off-guard

Caroline Crawley of Shelleyan Orphan, who died late last year. Hearing about it was a total shock. It's still upsetting when I think about it.

“All About Love” - Maurice White (1941-2016)

“…you are as beautiful as your thoughts…and if there ain’t no beauty, you got to make some beauty…”--“All About Love”

Over the many years of many hits--from That’s the Way of the World (1975), and Head to the Sky (1973)--“All About Love” and “Keep Your Head to the Sky” have always been at the top of a long list of my favorite recordings by Earth, Wind & Fire, ever since hearing them for the first time…almost 45 years ago!

A decade later, during my junior year at Cal, I saw them at what was then the Oakland Coliseum. Without a doubt, it was one of the best concerts I’ve ever seen--with solid performances all around, great special effects and props, plus bits of “magic” tossed in throughout the show!

I was surprised recently to find Maurice White on an obituary list of notables, and a little more bummed today for some reason, after seeing it mentioned again. Shocked

Songs that bring on a feeling of melancholy with nostalgic memories of high school dances and house parties--hearing them right now, there’s sadness as well with the loss of Maurice White “…in peace” (1941-2016) Sad

His passing was definitely a surprise. As far as "too soon" goes--as I get older and see those I grew up with pass away with more frequency, and those dearest to me--Bobby and my mom at 79 and 80...yes, 74 is way too soon!

Let's not forget Donna Summer and Yavahn (the vocalist behind Ruffneck's Everybody Be Somebody).

Also Dana Dawson.

And Natalie Cole.

I'm into Girl Bands, and this was a recent discovery. Albeit found out too late..

Simone Battle from G.R.L.

She ended her life at 25 when the group was on their peak a couple of years ago.
