Just curious when it comes to dating why is there such an age barrier? Love has no eyes when it comes to age in my book. In the gay society I see guys calling men over 30 a "daddy"..so is a man over 40 a "grandpa"...and what about the man over 50 and up..."great granddaddy"  ?
I guess since I am maturing I don't understand this, because the guy that is 25 now someday will be 50 if he is lucky. I was not brought up to see any barriers or walls when it comes to love / sexuality. I see no age, no color, no creed. If the attraction is there, then what does it matter? Is it all just peer pressure? Your thoughts?

That is a good question.......I have asked the same question until I had to face it head on.  Attraction and chemistry are ageless.  I found it difficult when a mutaul attraction occurred between myself and the man I have been dating for the last 2 months.  When we met we had no idea of the others age.  It was instant.....then come to find out when we began talking the age difference was not that great.  He just turned twenty five and i just happen to be 53. LOL  I have learned to roll with it and we can make the Daddy/Son comments in jest.  He had no issue with it......I did.  But, it feels good, there is a lot in common and a lot of differences that we openly joke about.

This is the first generation of out gay men who got to be over the age of 50.  30 years ago they all died from AIDS and nobody ever got old.

I don't think there is an age barrier as such to be honest.I'm loving the fact of being a 54 year old at the saunas ect these days.I'm highly sought after by bear types, twinks, cubs calling me daddy, gramps and whatever.Nah..There's never been a better time to be alive in my opinion.

aadam101, I am glad you are enjoying being 54, I am 54 as well. I tend to disagree with you about the age barrier. I have online profiles on some dating sites and to be hones there are many profiles that state an age preference. "If you are over 30 don't contact me", "If you are under 40 pass me by", "If you are older than dirt move on". Do the guys that think older men, let's say 40 and up, are to old for them, do they realize that one day they will be 40+ years old as well, and they will realize they put barriers on age preference. Love is love and chemistry is chemistry, age makes no difference to me.

well i have many questions about the gay society as a whole, not just for the age barrier..
i personally don't think that age matters that much.If there is connection and that spark between two people, then why should age be obstacle?

DamaDama, exactly! I agree. I thought this thread would generate a true interest and find some common ground. Where are the guys on here who have an age preference, I would love to hear your take on why you set limits.

I personally think it's just for fun to call someone like that. Otherwise I would consider it a "tribe". Anyhow I rarely see it happens

Yeah I ask myself why is there ageism/age barrier's in gay society? I also ask myself;

Why is there virgin shaming in gay society?

Why is there racism in gay society?

Why is masculinity challenged in gay society?

Why is femininity shamed upon in gay society?

Why is promiscuity so praised in gay society? (Not that I'm complaining about it)

Why is unsafe sex and bareback so rewarded in gay society?

Why are there so many divisive and enclosed groups and cliques in gay society?

I don't know, it's just the way it is. You don't have to follow any set agendas.

You would have to ask each and every individual person to get a clear consensus, even then. People can lie so.

You make a very good point.

However, these all apply to human society completely.
We just see it more in our own group.
If people would stop worrying about what others are doing or how we are different then we all could be happier and saner.

Look at what Trump is doing now; he is dividing the society, and not just in the US, by trying to make a group be the blame for all.

We have a tendency to do this is our culture which is really a shame as we have to fight among ourselves and the world at the same time.

I never think about having an "age limit" in either direction.  For just sex I am open to all ages.  When looking for a boyfriend I want to be with someone within +-5 years just because I have more in common with them.
