Glad to hear that there is at least one other that likes music whether or not it is considered "gay-enough".
In all fairness, Rozz Williams (original [read: only] singer of Christian Death) was a total flamer. Coincidentally, Darby Crash of the Germs was a semi-closeted/self-loathing homosexual as well. That had nothing to do with why I posted either band. I don't get my identity politics mixed up in my musical tastes, I just really like them both.

I guess the important thing to take from this is there is not any "gay" music. There is only plastic commercial garbage and genuine creativity. And gay folks have creativity in spades, though it might not seem like it these days. The Bravo TV image of homosexuality is a manufactured farce, not a universal representation of gay people/culture. Interestingly, it's only been in the last ~25 years that gays have become "accepted" and "mainstreamed" to the extent that they have. And with that, we've become increasingly commodified and pushed into a corner of stereotypes and cliches that are considered "marketable" and "non-threatening" to consumers. Exactly like what happened to goth, metal and punk, in fact!
Truth is, there are a lot of "gay minds" working in all fields of music/art. They were just a lot more visible before the mainstreamification of gay culture arrived in an explosion of TR-909 beats and M1 piano riffs (Full disclosure: I actually really like generic, early 90's house music... It's a nostalgia thing). You can't rely on mass media for an accurate depiction/representation of anything, only for the most general, sanitized version of it.
