If masks work, then why do we have to go into lockdowns?

Who said they work? They are supposed to restrict the water droplets, but don't completely stop them. I think masks aren't a great idea as it gives people false reassurance.

Anyway, people don't tend to wear them indoors, and that is where the virus spreads at a greater pace.

Except in your own home, you have to wear masks when inside.   This is the rule in most countries.

The problem is people fiddle with them, take them on and off all the time too. Loads of people don't keep their nose in either. Effectively they are useless and potentially worse than useless if touched all the time as they can easily become a source of contamination.

I don't know about in your part of the world, but here in Canada, we have "hotspot" areas, where there are problems with people not following the rules. The result is an increase in numbers. We tried locking down just the hotspot zones to curb it more because people weren't following the rules, and the result was that people in hotspot areas were flocking outside of those areas to do their shopping instead. The result is that everything is locked down now because people aren't listening and following the rules. It ruins it for the majority of people who do follow the rules.

If masks work, why do we have to go into lockdowns? That question is insufficient. We don't.

I agree with you to a point.

The UK had a lengthy lockdown earlier this year and most things were closed.  Most people fully complied with this, even though the police went mental and went far beyond what the law said.

In the UK, the 2 top doctors admitted lying about the numbers in order to get lockdowns.    Death certificates were being altered to say C-19.   We've seen similar things in many countries.

The WHO is being political with it, rather than purely medical.

People have lost faith.

Masks are required in all public spaces, yet we are in another lockdown in the UK.

"If masks work, why are there lockdowns?"

This question assumes two things:

  • Masks are 100% effective
  • Everyone wears masks when out-of-doors

Since neither of these assumptions can be proven to occur 100% of the time, the question cannot be given a definitive answer.

The only answer I can see is that mask wearing and lockdowns ought not to be seen as either/or propositions, but rather, as strategies which are adjunctive to each other.

UK police are extremely fanatical, to the extent of very often breaking human rights laws, when enforcing mask requirements.

Many people won't go out because of the nazi police.

Masks not being effective is quite comical since originally, we were told not to wear masks because they didn't work, then masks became the saviour of society.

Dems even posted that people wearing masks was stupid.  Likewise, liberals in the UK did the same.

C-19 appears to be more about politics and nothing to do with public health.

There's also the issue of the very people demanding we wear masks, politicians and the media, don't follow their own rules.

There's the video I posted here about the BBC, about the guy wanting to ask about the pedo scandal, but not a single person in the building was wearing a mask.   The very same people that said we were treasonous for not wearing masks when we leave our homes, not wearing their masks.

The CDC press conference showed the CDC doesn't wear masks except when they think they are on camera.  The guy giving the press conference walked up without a mask, stop and put on his mask, then went to the podium and took of the mask to give the press conference.  I guess he didn't think someone would have their camera aimed at the entrance to the press room.
